Understanding Autism Begins With Understanding People.
Clear information, practical guidance and a more welcoming world for children and families.
It is okay to have questions.
For many families, learning that a child is autistic brings unfamiliar questions. What does autism mean? What support might help? Who can we speak to? How do we discuss a child’s needs with teachers or relatives?
Where reliable information and qualified services are difficult to access, uncertainty can be especially challenging. AMOM wants to encourage respectful conversations and help families and educators find trustworthy guidance.
Start with understanding.
Understanding autism
Autism is a form of neurodevelopmental difference. Autistic people have individual strengths, experiences and support needs.

Myths & facts
Challenge misinformation and stigma with respectful, reliable information.
Finding support
Seek verified professional and community resources where they are available.
Understanding must speak the community’s language.
Family experiences are shaped by culture, language, available services and the attitudes of people around them. Resources should reflect these realities rather than assume that guidance developed elsewhere fits every setting.
AMOM aims to develop accessible, professionally reviewed guidance for families and educators, with English and French resources and further appropriate translations where possible.
Information is not a diagnosis.
This page provides general educational information, not medical assessment or treatment. Autism is not something that needs to be cured. Support should respect individual needs, preferences and autonomy. For concerns about development or health, consult a qualified professional.
