02 / OUR CAUSES

A chance to learn can change a lifetime.

From classrooms to learning materials, education has shaped AMOM Foundation since 2006.

OUR BEGINNING

An invitation that changed generations.

The father of AMOM founder Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy learned by listening outside a classroom window. Unable to attend school, he traced letters in the dirt until a teacher invited him inside.

That moment changed his opportunities, shaped his family’s future and became the conviction behind AMOM: the circumstances of a child’s birth should never decide whether they are allowed to learn.

Since 2006, AMOM has pursued learning access through school facilities, books, educational outreach and community partnerships.

BEYOND ACCESS

A classroom is a beginning, not an endpoint.

Children also need learning materials, supportive teachers and environments in which their individual learning needs are understood. AMOM’s education work connects its early commitments to the growing emphasis on inclusive education and developmental understanding.

SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE

A place to learn — and the resources to make it useful.

AMOM’s educational history includes school-block construction, rebuilding learning spaces and providing classroom furniture. The reconstruction of St. Louis Catholic Primary School in Nfiengong is one of the projects recorded in our archive.

A school building matters, but it also needs desks, teachers, books and practical tools. On the redesigned website, these are individual project stories, not footnotes in a generic list.

BOOKS IN CHILDREN’S HANDS

The book drive that made learning possible.

In the 2008 Christmas Book Drive in Ngondzen, AMOM documented providing 251 textbooks for pupils through a school-managed lending model. The project was designed so books could be used by successive learners rather than disappearing after a single term.

Our other reported initiatives include English and French learning materials, scholarships and practical school supplies for underserved children.

SCIENCE LEARNING AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Opportunity includes what happens after children enter school.

AMOM’s historical projects include the laboratory initiative at GHS Akum and scholarship support for orphans and other vulnerable children. These efforts respond to different barriers: access to science resources, financial pressure and the ability to remain in school.

The Djangirde initiative also explored community participation in understanding children’s literacy and numeracy outcomes. These programs make the foundation’s education legacy much broader than the provision of school buildings alone.

ROADS TO EDUCATION

A bridge can also be an education project.

The Tsenmah and Ndzenkov bridges were completed in 2025 as community infrastructure projects. They are primarily part of Community Development, but the safer crossings also matter for children travelling to school. The same original project report can be featured under both causes without double-counting it.
