AMOM INCLUSIVE CENTER / CAMEROON

A place to be understood. A future to belong.

Families deserve answers, educators deserve practical tools, and neurodivergent children deserve opportunities to learn and participate. This proposed center is the next chapter in AMOM’s long commitment to inclusion.

THE STORY BEHIND THE VISION

An open classroom window became a lifelong commitment.

Afowiri’s father once taught himself outside a classroom because he could not afford to attend school. When a teacher brought him inside, it altered the course of a family.

Years later, when Afowiri learned that his daughter was autistic, he faced a different barrier: the challenge of finding understanding and appropriate support. He discovered how difficult these questions can be in communities where access to reliable information, trained practitioners and inclusive education is limited.

The AMOM Inclusive Center grows from both experiences: the conviction that exclusion is not inevitable, and that meaningful support begins with seeing the person.

WHAT WE HAVE ALREADY ACHIEVED

We are not starting from zero.

Since 2006, AMOM has built an education and community-development track record. In 2026, published autism-awareness activities reached approximately 350 people; a Bafut Hospital session engaged 57 women. Marathon-linked work has also supported teacher and parent education in Bamenda. These outreach counts may overlap and are not combined.

EVIDENCE FROM REAL ACTIVITIES

The center will build on the work already underway.

The foundation’s wider history includes classrooms, books, school resources and community projects. Its direct autism-awareness work has also begun: education reaching approximately 350 people, an engagement with 57 women at Bafut District Hospital and teacher and parent support in Bamenda.

These programs do not mean the proposed center is already operating. They demonstrate community relationships and the beginning of an inclusion-focused program that can be strengthened through a well-designed center.

WHAT WE WANT TO CREATE

More than a proposed building.

We envision a coordinated environment that brings together family learning, inclusive educational resources, qualified professional partnerships and practical community training. Its design must reflect local needs, accessibility and guidance from autistic people and caregivers.

01

Family guidance

Accessible information, caregiver education and pathways to qualified referrals.

02

Inclusive education

Support for educators and learning approaches responsive to different needs.

03

Professional collaboration

Qualified partnerships and culturally relevant expertise.

04

Community capacity

Awareness, training and stronger referral relationships.

PROPOSED ROADMAP

A responsible development path.

Our proposed phases include listening to families and educators; confirming the site, model and governance; mobilizing funds and qualified partners; equipping appropriate facilities; and launching approved services in stages. Current phase, construction status, project budget and opening date must be confirmed before publishing specific claims.

Project milestones

Show meaningful progress, not assumptions.

Use a site survey video, official project briefing, development update photographs or a recorded stakeholder discussion. The milestone narrative should be updated as decisions are verified.

A CASE FOR SUPPORT

Your support should have a clear purpose.

Prospective donors and partners can explore contributions toward community outreach, educator capacity, relevant learning resources, approved infrastructure and sustainable program operations. Defined funding targets, timelines and reporting will be published once AMOM confirms them.
