04 / OUR CAUSES

Every mile has a purpose.

Using Cameroonian cultural visibility and international marathon platforms to make children and families harder to overlook.

THE TOGHU MARATHONER

He began running for causes, not records.

Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy began running to raise funds for children’s education. Over time, he took Cameroon’s Toghu, a distinctive traditional fabric, onto international marathon courses.

Wearing Toghu made culture visible and opened conversations. He used those conversations to explain why children excluded from educational opportunities and inclusive support deserve attention.

The marathon finish line is not the destination for AMOM. It is a platform through which awareness and resources can reach real projects.

BEYOND THE FINISH LINE

From an international race to community impact.

AMOM has connected marathon fundraising with tangible projects. Funds associated with the Tokyo Marathon helped support two Ngondzen bridges, while Kilimanjaro-linked fundraising helped autism-awareness and educational support activities in Cameroon.

A CAMPAIGN WITH A VISIBLE RESULT

The 2024 Tokyo campaign helped turn running into bridges.

Fundraising associated with Afawiri’s Tokyo Marathon supported the Tsenmah and Ndzenkov bridges, completed in November 2025 through community partnership. This is a concrete example of what endurance advocacy can make possible.

International visibility matters when it brings credible support back to communities: from classrooms and infrastructure to autism education and family engagement.

IMPACT YOU CAN EXPLORE

Behind each result is a real project.

FROM KILIMANJARO TO BAMENDA

When marathon advocacy helps people understand autism.

The Kilimanjaro campaign reported reaching its funding target within two weeks and supporting teacher and parent education, along with learning-support activities in Bamenda.

A marathon can command attention for a day; the objective is to translate that attention into support that lasts beyond the finish line.
