ABOUT AMOM FOUNDATION

Opening Doors. Changing Lives. Building a Future Where Every Child Belongs.

WHO WE ARE

A simple conviction. A lasting commitment.

AMOM Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to expanding access to education, strengthening communities and advancing inclusion for children who face barriers to learning and development.

Founded in Cameroon in 2006, AMOM began with a simple conviction: a child’s circumstances should never determine the limits of their future.

Over the years, that conviction has inspired educational outreach, school support, community development and opportunities for underserved children and families.

A DEFINING NEW CHAPTER

Today, our mission is entering a defining new chapter.

With a growing focus on autism and neurodiversity, we are working to establish the AMOM Inclusive Center in Cameroon — a place envisioned to bring families, educators and qualified professionals together to improve understanding, access to support and inclusive learning.

Our story began with a child who was invited into a classroom. Our future is about making sure more children receive that same invitation.

WHAT TWO DECADES HAVE TAUGHT US

Impact is the result of showing up repeatedly.

School blocks, classroom resources, textbooks, scholarships, community infrastructure and inclusion education are chapters of the same story. AMOM’s work has grown, but its underlying belief has not changed: when someone is excluded, meaningful action can open the door.

WHY WE EXIST

The child outside the window.

At five, Afowiri’s father could not attend school. He listened from outside the classroom and traced letters into the dirt. A missionary teacher noticed him and invited him inside. That invitation changed his education, his family’s future and the values that would eventually shape AMOM. Inclusion was never an abstract idea in this family. It began with a door opened to someone who had been left outside.

A TURNING POINT

When inclusion became personal.

When Afowiri’s young daughter was identified as being on the autism spectrum, the importance of understanding and timely support became deeply personal. He began learning about autism and asking what happens to families who have even fewer resources and avenues for support.

His experience did not erase AMOM’s history in education. It gave that history a new urgency and focus.

OUR FOUNDATION

A history of doing the work.

Our earlier education and community programs remain part of the foundation’s story and the evidence of what long-term commitment can achieve.
